I'm Dave, Dr. K, Dr. Dave, Dr. Koppenhaver to students. I've taught in the Reading Program at Appalachian State since 2004. I was a classroom teacher in Oxford, NC, and have worked at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, and Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) before moving to Boone. My wife is the assistant director of the teaching fellows program here, and we have three sons (Catawba College senior, Watauga H.S. soph, Hardin Park 8th grader). I love basketball, videography, photography, and reading.
ReplyDeleteI am Nikki Craig, I am a Junior at App. I am also an after school director at Green Valley School, and I love my job! I am from Hickory, NC. When I am at home I spend most of my time with my dog, Smoltz, following me around. :)
ReplyDeleteI am Heather Johnson, a Junior at App. I work at the ASU Child Development Center and have worked there for two years. In the summer, I work at Creative Children in Hickory. When I am at home I spend most of my time with my friends, family and boyfriend. I have a 9 month old nephew who I absolutely adore :-)
ReplyDeleteI am Shelby Johnson. I am a Junior at ASU, and I work part-time at the ASU Child Development Center. I want to be a teacher because I love children. I desire to find ways to make education valuable to every student in my future classroom. I love spending time with my family, friends, and fiance. I especially love the beach and can't wait until the summer to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI am Danielle Epley and I am a Junior at App. I work at WAYE (W. A. Young Elementary) during the summer as a daycare teacher and I love it. I am from Valdese, NC. When I am at home I spend most of my time with my family, my boyfriend and his family. I have a niece that is three and I try to spend as much time as possible with her when I can. :) I want to become a teacher because I love working with kids and I have wanted to share my knowledge with them since I was in the fifth grade.
ReplyDeleteI am Emily Towery. I am a Senior here at ASU. I am from Morganton NC. I love going to the lake in the summer; if it's water then I am there! I love to fish and hunt! I work during the summer for the city of Morganton. I am excited to be a teacher. Ever since I was little I would play school in my spare time. My parents have me on videotape playing school. My one and only student's name was "Dabid" because I couldn't say David.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Molly Suddes, and I am a junior at Appalachian State. I am from Atlanta, Georgia, so I am pretty far away from home. I love football especially SEC. I have two older brothers, and my oldest coaches for the University of Alabama. My family and I bleed Crimson. I am obsessed with my dog, Leena. I LOVE to work out, but due to my long recovery, I will not be doing that anytime soon. I love working with small kids, and I would like to work with the primary grades. I am an extreme spaz!
ReplyDeleteI am Leslie Sheppard and I am a junior at App. I am from Boone and love being here in the mountains close to my family. I am very involved with my church, Cornerstone Summit, and love the Lord! :) I enjoy going to the beach, taking pictures, and spending time with my friends and boyfriend. I want to be a teacher because I love children and I know that I will enjoy going to my job each day. I can't wait to be a mom someday and get to have the summers to spend traveling and spend with my family.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Christin Jones and I am a junior here at Appalachian. I grew up in Asheville, NC and I absolutely love the mountains. I feel as though becoming a teacher has always been in God's plan for me. I love children and learning about each of their personalities and watching them grow academically. I work at my family's restaurant in Asheville as well as a substitute teacher in Buncombe County schools during breaks. Running is one of my favorite things to do. I also like to play tennis, hike,travel, read and spend time with my family.

Hi! My name is Hannah Hobson. I am a junior here at ASU. I am from Gastonia, North Carolina and I went to Forestview High School. I have to older brothers and a fabulous dog names Jack, and awesome parents! I like to work out, hang out with friends, be involved around campus and just enjoy life! I am really excited about becoming a teacher, because ever since my junior year of high school I realized that is what I wanted to do. It would just be the greatest joy to educate another and help encourage there learning career.

My name is Sarah Purrell. I am a senior and I am a year behind because I decided a little late to major in Elementary Ed. but I’m definitely glad I did. I’m from Denver, NC and graduated from East Lincoln High School. I love being with my friends and family and I love helping and teaching children. I am very excited about becoming a teacher!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Katie West. I am junior here at ASU. I am from Asheville, NC and I love the mountains. I am married and I have a little girl named Kelsie Grace. She is 16 months old and a handful! Both of my parents are educators so I grew up in the schools. I love working with the little kids because they are lots of fun and always have something interesting to say! I'm excited to learn as much as I can so that I can hopefully encourage another child to love learning as much as I do.

I have an older brother, Kyle, who graduated from App last May and a younger brother, Michael, who is a freshman at UNC Charlotte. I love elementary education and have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was little. My mom is a teacher in Lincoln county and I always enjoyed playing school in her classroom. I love ASU, Duke basketball,hanging out with friends and family and being outdoors when it's warm.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Amanda from Greensboro, NC and I'm a senior. I love to take naps, eat grilled cheeses, watch football on Sundays, laugh at inappropriate times, and I'm outspoken and honest. I sleep with a teddy bear named Phil every night and when at home I constantly wear bedroom slippers. I'm a big fan of UNC basketball and my boyfriend is a huge fan of the Dookies so we constantly have arguments over which team is the best. I want to be a teacher because I want all students to enjoy learning as much as I do. Eventually I want to get my master's in reading education.

My name is Kayla Rash and I am from Ashe County, which is right next to Watauga. I love working with children and I am very active in my church, especially with the youth. I love Jesus, my Savior, and my life is dedicated to serving Him. I am very excited to be on the downhill slope toward graduation and a job teaching. Working with children is my passion because I want to inspire them to follow their dreams and continue in the path of life-long learning the same way so many of my teachers inspired me.

My name is Katie Stover and I am a junior this year. I am from Gastonia NC and graduated from Forestview High School. I love working with children and have been a YMCA day camp counselor for 4 years. I have a yorkie named molly who lives with me here in boone. I am interested in how some teachers use animals to help children with reading etc. so sometimes Molly makes trips to camp with me in the summer :) I like being outside, riding my streetbike, and hiking in the summer.

I have two dogs and a hamster. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was little. I loved playing school with my younger nephew and that really got me excited and interested in teaching.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Siomara Castillo and I am a Senior at ASU. I am from Dobson, NC and I graduated from Surry Central High School. I am originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, but I have lived in NC for most of my life. I work part time at Food Lion and during the summer I work at a Summer Camp. I love to play volleyball and hang out with my friends. Ever since I was in Kindergarten I knew I wanted to be teacher. I enjoy being around children and I can't wait till I start teaching!!!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Elizabeth Hicks but I go by Beth. I am a junior at ASU and went to Newton-Conover High School (Near Hickory). I have an older sister who is 26 and in Nursing school at Duke University. I am very close to my family and love going home and to visit my relatives. I have a cat named PJ who I love to death and will be coming up to Boone next year to live with me :-). I have known that I wanted to be an elementary teacher since around second grade and I love children, I find them very interesting. I love to shop, spend time with my friends, family and boyfriend, and I am a huge NC State fan!! Go Wolfpack!!

My name is Molly Maness. I am a junior here at ASU and i went to Southwest Guildford High School. I am very close with my family. I have a younger sister named Mandy who is a junior in high school. She is very artistic and plans o study it in college. I play soccer and work at Panera here in Boone. I have always wanted ot be a teacher and ASU was the only school i applied to because i knew this is where i wanted to be. I have a boyfriend who goes to Charlotte and i try to go down there once a month or so. I am a huge DUKE fan and look forward to the duke/unc game february 11 :) Cant wait to get to know all of you better!

I have always wanted to be a teacher because I love helping people and seeing them succeed in life. I also love children and work at the Appalachian Child Development Center.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm Megan Cockrum and I am a junior at App. I am from Huntersville, NC, and I have two younger brothers and we are all five years apart. I love being with my family, friends, and my boyfriend. I work at The Pet Place up by Harris Teeter and it's the first job I have had where I do not work directly with children. I want to be a teacher because I love kids, the look on their face when you have taught them something new, and their eagerness to learn and try new things. I have wanted to teach since I was in the second grade and I cannot wait.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Brittany Norman and I am from a little town called Thurmond in North Carolina. I am currently a Junior. I am a Christian and I love the Lord! I have a wonderful family who supports me in everything I do. I have two beautiful nieces who I love to spoil rotten. :) I have always wanted to teach and feel like it is a calling for my life. When I was in high school I toyed with the idea of becoming and OB Nurse (the ones who help deliever babies), but I could not bring myself to leave behind the idea of teaching. I knew it was what I was supposed to do. During the summers I work at a day camp near my hometown and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI am Emily Fox. I'm a junior and my concentration for elementary ed is music. I grew up in a small town called Taylorsville. I work at StickBoy Bread Company, as well as play drumset for a contemporary service at First United Methodist in Lenior. I also help instruct a percussion ensemble in Hickory that I was in when I was in middle and high school. I am so passionate about the teaching field and believe that the future of children is really in our hands. I am hoping to do part of my student teaching in Costa Rica to further my education as well.
ReplyDeleteI am Kayla Sizemore. I'm a junior and my concentration is Social Sciences. I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball. I play on the club volleyball team here at ASU. I also work at Sagebrush. I am a hostess there. During the summer I work at a church daycare, which I would argue is the best job to have. I am a big animal lover. I have 3 dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and a fish. If I could I would take in every stray that I found. I am originally from Yadkinville, NC.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am Joni Little. I am a senior in credit hours but a junior by year, so I guess that makes me a five year senior in credit hours in four years. I am the second oldest out of four kids. I became a proud aunt in September. I like things to be clean and organized. I like hiking, riding horses, and kayaking. One day I hope that I can travel the world, but for right now I just can't wait to graduate, get a job, and then I can have a life! I am also from the small town of Taylorsville like Emily! :)
ReplyDeleteI am Meggie. I am a junior, elementary ed and social studies concentration. I love college and I have also worked at the child deelopment center since this past summer na d plan on workong there again this summer. I love my family and friends and dogs. I plan on going to graduate school right after i graduate. I have no idea where I am going ot end up after graduating from ASU. I also have a lake house in Wilkesboro on Kerr Scott and I love to go there all the time, along with the beach.
